Determined man who lost his home to pandemic goes back to school, graduates as the best student

A determined young man named Micheal Jeffrey who lost his home due to the pandemic, returned to school and eventually graduated as the best graduating student in his class.

Micheal Jeffrey, a Washington resident lost his two jobs and home during the COVID-19 pandemic which left him with no choice than to live in a tent under a bridge. He said the period was very tough one for him.

Despite the challenges, Micheal said he did not give up but instead, he decided to pursue a better future. He enrolled in classes at the Goodwill Excel Center, a free high school program for adults, while still living on the streets.

“I didn’t want to be stuck out here. I don’t wish this on anybody, to be stuck out here,” Jeffrey said in an interview with NBC 4 Washington. “We don’t want pity. A lot of people in this situation is just like me. We want better; we want more,” he added.

Micheal said after a year of hard work and determination, his efforts paid off. He graduated as the valedictorian of his class and before graduation, he vacated the tent and moved into a new apartment.

He thanked the Goodwill Excel Center for giving him a second chance to get a better future.“A lot of people don’t get that second chance, and Goodwill allowed that second chance for me, and I appreciate that,” he said.

Micheal said that now that he has his high school diploma in hand, he plans to further his education to a higher level. He said he has enrolled at Catholic University with plans to study legal studies.
