A 20-year-old girl named Obasi Precious Chigozirim who sold food to sponsor herself through school has bagged a full scholarship to university.

Obasi Precious Chigozirim is a Nigerian girl who sells Garri (Cassava Flour) to train herself through school and cater fro her financial needs was awarded a full scholarship to the university for her hard work.

Precious said in an interview with Legit that she is the lastborn of her parent who has financial challenges. She mentioned that she lives with her father who has been sick for a while and her mother who is a teacher.

She said her mother has not received a salary from the government for years, which has been a setback for her. Precious mentioned that she decided to start a business selling Garri and use the profits to support her education.

“My dad is very sick and my mum is a teacher and the government has been owing her for a long time now. All my siblings are still in school,” Precious said.

These are the reasons why I have no sponsor now other than my garri business which I believe that God will use to sponsor my education,” she added. She mentioned that she wrote the Joint Admission Matriculation Examination and passed.

She was admitted into the Alex Ekwueme Federal Univesity, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi to study Marketing. Precious said she plans to stay off campus to continue her garri business, and used the avenue to beg for customers online so she could see herself through school.

A non-governmental organization, Onyekwelu Ogonna Foundation came across the post of Precious sourcing for customers online and decided to offer her a full scholarship to cover all of her university expenses.

The founder of the foundation, Miss Akah Ogonna, said she has adopted Precious as her child. She added that her foundation would sponsor her education till graduation making a 20000 naira commitment to the cause.

“She told me that by next January (2024) she will start paying my school fees and some other things I need in school. She already sent me N20k for my upkeep some weeks ago,” Precious said.

Precious expressed her gratitude to the Onyekwelu Ogonna Foundation for sponsoring her education and to all the blogs that sought support for her online.
